Camp Victory Announces $2 million Endowment Campaign
The Board of Directors at Camp Victory have kicked off their first-ever fundraising campaign. The Legacy Campaign for Camp Victory was announced at a special dinner event held at the Millville, Pa., camp on Tuesday, June 24. The campaign’s purpose is to raise $2 million to support Camp Victory’s endowment and sustain the future of the facility and program.
“Camp Victory serves more than 1,000 campers each summer,” says Paul Kettlewell, co-chair of the Legacy Campaign. “We need this endowment campaign to secure this vital program into the future for children facing a variety of medical and life-threatening challenges.”
The Kettlewell family, Paul and Jane Kettlewell and Molly and Andy Nied, long-time Camp Volunteers, are chairing the Legacy Campaign. Over $1 million has already been committed toward the ultimate goal of $2 million. Gifts given to the endowment will be invested so only a portion of the investment income is spent annually. The balance of the endowment income will be reinvested to ensure the long-term stability of Camp.
The endowment was started through a generous gift given by a board member and his wife, Myles and Joanne Katerman to support Kids Kash, a unique scholarship program that ensures that all kids who want to attend camp can attend camp. Additional significant gifts have already been committed by other generous members of the local and regional community.
Camp Victory Board members Bob McBride and Chris Howell organized the second annual “Golf for Victory Tournament” held at Frosty Valley Country Club on July 24, 2008. The tournament raised an amazing $32,975.00!!!! Please watch the website for information about next year’s event!
Dr. O’s Victory Ride was held on the 24th of August…..a beautiful summer day at Camp Victory! This is such a fun way to raise money for Camp Victory’s special kids. This year more than 400 motorcyclists contributed over $12,000.00! Tim Hammaker and his wonderful volunteers did a wonderful job planning this special annual event! And, Camp Victory’s amazing kitchen staff prepared and served a delicious meal to all of the riders!
Camp Victory’s Festival and Appreciation Day
Our special Fun Festival had to be cancelled this year because of rain…..but mark your calendars for September 12, 2009 for this annual event next year.
The Festival was cancelled, but we still held our annual Appreciation Day. This event was moved into the main dining hall, because of the nasty weather. Even though the day was gloomy and rainy, there was a warm and sunny feeling radiating from over 100 folks in attendance! We hold this special event each year to say a huge “thank you” to all of the wonderful individuals and groups that make Camp Victory possible for hundreds of special campers each year.
To date, we’ve had over 1,200 campers pass through our gates, swim in our pool, and climb the climbing wall this summer…..and the season isn’t over yet! This weekend we will host Camp Spifida Retreat, a weekend camp for young adults with spina bifida. And, the first weekend in October, Camp Courage #2 will experience a special weekend of camping and camaraderie. Thanks to a special grant, Camp Courage will also host a one-day camping experience for children ages 4 – 5 – 6 who have suffered the loss of a loved one…..Camp Little Brave Hearts.
We may actually pass the 1,300 camper mark this summer for the first time ever! And, we believe that we’ll be adding two more special camps for the summer of 2009!
Camp Victory is truly a “special camp for special kids”! And we continue to be able to provide this amazing camp experience because of all of the wonderful volunteers and donors that give in so many ways each year!
Thanks for another wonderful camping season!

Uncle Walter's Treehouse
Uncle Walter’s Treehouse is a dream come true for everyone at Camp Victory! West Pharmaceutical Services provided all of the funding, as well as the manpower to construct this wonderful structure. It was designed by Forever Young Treehouses of Vermont. The on-site supervisor was our faithful friend and experienced contractor, Harold Fisk. Over 100 employees, in 8 people per day shifts, from West’s three local plants in Montgomery, Jersey Shore, and Williamsport worked for eight weeks to complete the project. It was finished just in time for the 2007 camping season!
This project was a labor of love by everyone involved! The West people were so wonderful to work with….it was a very special partnership!
Our campers love their new treehouse and want to say a huge “thank you” to everyone at West Pharmaceutical Services for funding and building this wonderful treehouse!
